Vilalte is a magnificent place in the French Pyrenees mountains (see
map) where you can enjoy healthy nature and deep silence. It is situated at an altitude of 1000 meters with panoramic views. Forests of chestnut trees, hazel trees, ancient oaks and other trees rising towards the sky between enormous granite rocks surround it.
People lived in this place since at least 3000 years, the dolmen and cromlech are the silent witnesses from those megalithic times. A cromlech is an oval or round space, surrounded by big rocks and stones made by this unknown society of 3000-5000 years ago. There were used for ceremonies and rituals. |

| This big house, which can also be your home during your stay, keeps its history to itself and invites us to discover it again. Archives are non-existent or destroyed by the numerous invasions during Pyrenean history. There are records of Vilalte dating back to the 13th century, and from inscriptions in the stone walls we know that around 1650 the 'Compagnons Bâtisseurs', who also built cathedrals, began the last big reconstruction. Since then certain parts of the buildings have been destroyed. |

The terraces in the forest and around the mas reveal to us the courage and work of generations of women, men and children. They knew how to adapt themselves to the geology of this mountain, which rises behind Vilalte to the southern side of the Canigou (altitude 2784 meters) and 40 kms from the Mediterranean Sea.
Lords and their court, monks, farmers and brave people lived and worked here, on the land and with their cattle, before it fell finally to ruins. |

| For twenty years we have worked on the restoration of this mas, which is built entirely of rock, with respect for the elements (rock, wood, earth).
Vilalte can now receive you comfortably, enabling you to share in the joy of being here, in the middle of this wild nature that you by your presence help to protect and help to become even more beautiful.
Vilalte has a lot of space for everyone and is very quiet. It is a place where you can feel at ease, alone or together with others.
